Female Breadwinners – Do you raise challenge with grace?
Have you seen the TEDx Rachel Simmons video, I love TED videos. they always make me think.
In this video Rachel Simmons reminds us what it is like to be a young girl again, but there are so many parallels in the workplace. Particularly the way women don’t want to be viewed as:agressive, stand out, or seem unfeminine.
If you have a daughter please watch it, it really resonated with me and raised so many questions:
Are we preparing girls for the workplace and for life? Are we equipping them with the inner resources to be female breadwinners?
The messages girls receive in school sound something like this:
- Yes you be smart, but don’t make people uncomfortable while you do it
- Yes you be athletic, but you must be slim and feminine
We all need to ‘Raise challenge with grace’ and embarass our daughters – you’ll know what I mean after you watch it 😀
How should we equip our girls to be prepared for the world of work and their potential role a breadwinner? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
