For women who Rock their Role in work and life

Lessons from BBC Show the Syndicate – Love and Money

Have you been watching the Syndicate? The five-part drama by Kay Mellor, following five supermarket workers whose lives are turned upside down when they jointly win the lottery.

Apart from the fact that it really well cast with: Timothy Spall, Lorraine Bruce, Matthew Lewis, Joanna Page and Matthew McNulty, it has made me think about Love and Money.

As you know my forthcoming book is in support and celebration of Female Breadwinners and the impact that earning more money than their partner can have on all aspects of their life.  This show really brings to live how money can actually turn everything upside down.

In the case of the character Stuart Bradley, played by Matthew Lewis it has made him see the ugly, greedy and shallow side of his girlfriend and his brother.  Whereas for the character Leanne Powell played by Joanna Page, it has meant that her past caught up with her and she had to stop running away.

Denise Simpson played by Lorraine Bruce learnt one of the toughest lessons, money can’t buy you Love and plastic surgery won’t make someone love you.

I think tonight’s final show with will be about the character Jamie Bradley played by Matthew Lewis- hopefully he’ll get his comeuppance. Money won’t provide a shelter for him.

So what’s the point of this blog post, apart from making you question whether you would really like to win the lottery! I think the lesson is not to be naive enough to think that money won’t impact every aspect of your life, even the part that extends to love.

Have conversations about money, manage it and it may even enhance the love in your life.

Watch the Syndicate tonight at 9pm on BBC One and let me know what you think.

My book Rocking Your Role – the ‘how to’ guide to success for Female Breadwinners, will be out in June 2012
