Sage 50 Tried and Tested Business Tips

Welcome to Day 6 of my sharing exclusive tips from Sage’s 50 Tried and Tested business tips resource, that I have been given early access to as a Sage Business Expert.

The resource has the following sections:

  1. Start Your Business
  2. Grow Your Business
  3. Manage Cash Flow
  4. Control Your Costs
  5. Work Life Balance
  6. Employing People
  7. Beating Business Fears

Yesterday I shared a practical tip from the Work Life Balance section, and tomorrow, I will give you access to the full resource and a final tip on Beating Business Fears.

Do keep posted.

Todays Tip from the Employing People Sections is:

Hire people who are better than you

The best piece of business advice I got was “Don’t be afraid to hire people who are better than you are”. I liked that. Be humble and you’ll get great people on board who can maybe even teach you a thing or two along the way.

You are never going to be perfect in every way, and it’s never good to surround yourself with people just like you, even though it feels that it would make life easier to do so.  In the  long term you’ll miss out on the different perspectives, ways of doing things and innovation that comes from difference.  So have an open mind and don’t be intimated if you don’t know as much as your staff on a particular subject, that’s what they are there for.

I am Jenny Garrett, Executive Coach, founder of Reflexion Associates, a leadership and coaching consultancy and author or Rocking Your Role – the how to guide to success for female breadwinners. Tomorrow I’ll share a tip on Beating Business Fears and the full resource from the Sage 50 Tried and tested business tips.
