For women who Rock their Role in work and life

Ladies – Do you need permission to buy your shoes?

One of the best things about being the female breadwinner is that you do not need to ask permission to buy anything.

I must admit that I woke up a bit groggy this morning, my daughter is unwell which kept me up during the night. Then I had the morning angst as to whether to send her to school or not, and if not where she would stay for the day, as I had a long standing arrangement to provide some leadership training.

By the time I got to St Pancras station at 7.50am, I felt that I had done a full day’s work and what was more annoying was that I had dressed for winter in boots and a thick coat, as it was frosty and cold when I left home and now it felt like a bright spring day.

With only twenty five minutes before my train I sprung into action, knowing that a new pair of shoes would mean the difference between an average and a great day.

Actually I could only find two places to buy shoes at St Pancras: LK Bennett and Monsoon, I dashed into LK Bennett like a woman possessed and although there were some shoes that I liked, I thought £200 was a bit much for an impulse buy.  Feeling a bit dejected I saw the Monsoon sign in the distance, I found a gorgeous navy blue pair and a staple nude pair and even found earrings for under the price I would have spent for one pair in LK Bennett. I achieved this and still had ten minutes before my train.

I am now sitting on my train looking down on my gorgeous heels knowing I’ll have a great day. No guilt, no asking for permission, just pure loveliness and it’s only 9am.  I know it’s going to be a fabulous day where I rock my role as breadwinner.

What about you, tell me about the purchases that have helped you Rock Your Role.

My forthcoming book: Rocking Your Role – the ‘how to’ guide to success for Female Breadwinners, is all about celebrating the great things being a female breadwinner gives you, shoes being only one of them.

I love the freedom to buy whatever I like. Even when the impulse buy is a poor decision I have nobody whining that this month wasn’t a good month for gorgeous 5inch strappy stilettos!
After all it’s only my own belt that I’d have to tighten!

  2. I agree, I love the freedom to buy whatever I want.
